For our U.S. and EU backers, our prices include the shipping fees, which cover customs fees, duties, value-added tax (VAT), and import taxes. We will ship the entire batch to a local warehouse in your region by sea shipping, and from there, it will be delivered to you via courier. This option is more affordable and convenient, though it may take a bit longer.

For other regions, we will ship directly from China using air freight and courier services. Since Move is a large and heavy item and will be shipped worldwide from China, shipping costs may be relatively high. However, we assure you that, with our team’s extensive experience operating Chessnut, we have secured the most competitively discounted shipping rates available. Additionally, our team has subsidized part of the shipping cost to help reduce the expense for backers.

However, please note that for other regions, customs duties and VAT need to be paid according to the regulations of your country. These fees may be collected by the courier on your behalf or directly requested by customs. Payment is required before the delivery can proceed.

We’ve implemented advanced micro-robotics technology to power piece movement on the chessboard. Each piece’s base functions as a miniature robot, equipped with our proprietary Advanced Full Piece Recognition Technology (AFPR) for precise identity and position recognition. Position recognition has been upgraded from previous grid-based detection to precise identification in millimeter units. Q2: What about the piece base? They are not very aesthetically pleasing.

Due to natural color variations in wood, we use metallic spray paint in this color for the wooden piece sets, which helps to better integrate with both wood-colored and ebonized pieces. For the plastic piece sets, we use an integrated design, providing a stronger sense of unity and allowing users to choose according to their preferences. The wheels are visible from the bottom, but we’ve designed them to blend seamlessly with the player’s experience. The feel of manually moving the pieces is almost identical to that of regular chess pieces. From the side, the wheels are mostly hidden and only protrude about 1mm from the bottom.

Q3: Does it support FEN/PGN setups?

Yes, Move supports FEN for setting up positions. You can quickly and accurately restore saved board states and reproduce previous positions. Additionally, you can import PGN for board playback and analysis.

Q4: Does it support voice commands?

We’ve designed a path-planning algorithm for Chessnut Move to handle piece scheduling. While it may appear clumsy at times, this is often the calculated optimal solution. We will continue refining the algorithm to improve efficiency. Minor issues may occur occasionally, but with continued development, they will become much less frequent in the final version.

Q6: Does it support games with shorter time controls? Usually, robotic chess boards are quite slow in their movements.

Move features 10Hz high-frequency positioning, 0.1-second fast command response, and efficient simultaneous movement of multiple pieces, ensuring smooth gameplay along with system stability and reliability. This allows Move to achieve an average move time of around 3 seconds, minimizing time loss typically associated with electronic chessboards and enabling gameplay even in short time control games.

Theoretically, all pieces can move at once. However, depending on the complexity of the position, the algorithm may schedule some movements in batches to ensure optimal performance.

Q8: Is the product shown in the demo video the final version? Will there be any further adjustments?

Move shown in the demo video is a working prototype. The chess piece robots currently displayed are made using 3D printing, so there may be some issues, such as uneven movement paths or recognition errors. In January, we plan to produce a few dozen test samples using trial molds to send to YouTube influencers for reviews and feedback. Based on this feedback, we will make minor improvements for the final mass-production version. Overall, the technical approach is already finalized. there won’t be significant changes, and the final performance will only improve compared to the current prototype.

For customers in the US & EU:

Dispatch Location: We ship items directly from our local warehouses located in the US and the European Union.

Due to the limited quantities and intricate craftsmanship of some premium products, occasional stock shortages may occur. Since sea freight from China to our US/EU warehouses takes over two months, we want to get your product to you faster.

Warranty Policy

Replacing Instead of Repairing:

All Chessnut chessboard products are backed by a limited warranty. Please note that we do not offer repair services. If a covered defect occurs within the warranty period, the affected product will be replaced with an equivalent new product.

European Union (EU): 2-year limited warranty and complimentary technical support.
Other Regions (including US): 1-year limited warranty.

In the case of a covered warranty defect, Chessnut will, at its discretion:

(A) Replace the product with an equivalent new product; or
(B) Provide a partial or full refund based on the product's depreciation and usage, in exchange for the return of the product.

Return Shipping for Warranty Claims:

Unless otherwise required by local consumer law, the customer is responsible for the shipping costs to return the defective item to our designated facility. Chessnut will cover the shipping costs to send the replacement device back to you.

Exclusions:

This warranty does not apply to damages resulting from misuse, accidental damage, liquid damage, or intentional harm. Additionally, the warranty is completely void if the product has been altered, opened, or repaired by unauthorized parties.

Warranty Policy for Replaced Devices:

If your product is replaced, the warranty for the replacement product will start from the date of the replacement. The new warranty period will be either 90 days or the remaining time of the original warranty, whichever is longer.

Extended Warranty Option:

A genuinely impressive smart chess board with a few areas to refine

I’ve been extremely happy with the Chessnut Move. It delivers on its core promise, and in many ways it goes beyond what I expected from a smart chess board.

The fundamentals are excellent. Every piece moves reliably and consistently, and the board does exactly what it advertises. The connection to the iPad is seamless, and the app itself is well-designed and genuinely useful. I can play games, solve puzzles, and configure positions all from within the app without friction. That level of integration makes the whole experience feel polished rather than gimmicky.

One standout feature is how the board handles piece movement. Multiple pieces can move at once during rearrangement, which makes a huge difference when working through puzzles. Anyone who has ever set up chess puzzles manually knows how tedious and error-prone that can be. Here, that friction is basically eliminated.

Voice input is another strong feature. It works reliably, though I do wish it supported standard algebraic notation in addition to coordinate-style input like “E2 to E4.” Expanding that would make it feel more natural for experienced players.

The position scanning via the app is also quite useful. Taking a picture and importing a position works well in general, though it is not perfect. Occasionally I need to make small corrections before applying the position. That said, this is a difficult technical problem, and what is here already adds real value.

Battery life and charging are solid overall. Charging the pieces takes about one to two hours, which is reasonable, and I can get multiple sessions in before needing to recharge. One area that could be improved is battery visibility. While the app does show charge levels, I usually only check after a piece stops responding. Proactive alerts or clearer status indicators would make this smoother.

The charging pad itself works fine, though the setup could be more intuitive. Each piece needs to be placed in a specific orientation, which is not immediately obvious unless you check the bottom of the piece. Once you know what to do, it is straightforward, but there is definitely room to make this more user-friendly.

Finally, the inclusion of extra bases is a thoughtful touch. I have not needed them, but it is reassuring to know they are there if something fails down the line.

Overall, this is a well-executed product that significantly improves the experience of playing and training with a physical chess board. It is not perfect, but the strengths far outweigh the minor inconveniences. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in a smart chess setup.

It is absolutely recommendable. The training, especially the tactical exercises, is really excellent. When you play, you can truly immerse yourself in the game because the opponent ‘moves’ on their own. I love it.
