Chessnut Sponsors Lleida’s Escacs Pardinyes Club Tournament, Supporting Chess as a Social and Educational Activity

At Chessnut, we believe in the power of chess to bring people together, nurture strategic thinking, and foster educational development. This passion for chess aligns perfectly with the mission of the Escacs Pardinyes Club, a longstanding chess organization in the beautiful city of Lleida, Spain. With its rich history and dedication to promoting chess as both a sport and an educational activity, we are proud to announce our sponsorship of their upcoming tournament, scheduled for Saturday, September 28th, during the Festivals of Tardor and Sant Miquel Day.

Following the immense success of their August 3rd tournament—which saw over 100 participants and became one of the largest open tournaments in the region—we are thrilled to support the next chapter of this exciting event. The September tournament promises to be a celebration of chess, culture, and community, drawing in participants of all ages and skill levels, along with a lively crowd of spectators.

The timing of this event, coinciding with the vibrant festivals in Lleida, adds a special touch to the tournament, allowing both residents and visitors to experience the joys of chess while soaking in the festive atmosphere of the city. As a company deeply committed to innovation in the chess world, Chessnut is proud to stand alongside the Escacs Pardinyes Club in this endeavor. Together, we aim to elevate the presence of chess in the community, providing a platform for enthusiasts to connect, compete, and grow.

Through our sponsorship, Chessnut is not only contributing to the event’s success but also supporting the broader goal of making chess more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. By partnering with clubs like Escacs Pardinyes, we continue to strengthen the bridge between traditional chess play and modern, technological advancements. Our innovative smart chessboards—such as Chessnut Go—offer players of all levels the opportunity to enjoy a seamless and interactive chess experience, whether they’re playing over the board or online with friends across the globe.

We invite all chess lovers to join us in this celebration and to witness the strategic brilliance that will be on display at the Lleida tournament on September 28th. Whether you are a seasoned player or new to the game, this event promises to be a fantastic opportunity to engage with the local chess community and be part of a historic occasion.

Stay tuned for updates on the tournament and discover how Chessnut continues to make a positive impact on the chess world, both locally and globally.

Hi there,
I am Jane Norton, Regional Organiser of Chess in Schools and Communities here in Bristol and the South West. We have been recently running an afterschool club for the first time in a lovely little primary school in Yatton, and they share your name (just a T more than your name). They are called Chestnut Park Primary school and they played in their first chess Interschool Tournament on Friday 26 June. They were the youngest school there. I was speaking to their deputy head who said they would love to have a curriculum lesson each week which would allow all of the children at their school to learn chess in addition to their lovely chess club.. This would mean that almost 100 children could learn chess properly and get 30 lessons in term time. The lessons cost £550 each year and I thought I would ask you on their behalf because you are practically related by name! I have some amazing photos of the children at the tournament, where 13 teams of 6 took part in the championship. Whilst they did come at the bottom of the table, with just 49 points (mostly due to the fact they are younger than the others in the tournament), the top scorer in each team gets a medal and they were lucky enough that 4 of them were on 9 out of 15. They took back 4 medals to their school, and the biggest smiles you had ever seen. The teacher told me that they love chess and would love to have a curriculum lesson each week, but they only have enough money for the chess club and a hired mini bus so that they can take the children to tournaments. Wouldn’t it be a lovely surprise if you could sponsor a lesson a week for a year for £550 and I am sure they would welcome a visit from you to present this surprise to them, and I am pretty sure you could get a cup of “T” which is all that is missing from your name to make you both properly related!

I think that would be absolutely lovely, if you could consider it. Imagine their faces, and fabulous photo opportunity for you to go to Chestnut primary with a cheque from Chessnut :-)

Thank you so much for considering my request!
